Environmental Sustainability

One of en.v’s key concerns from its inception has been to promote environmental sustainability. Environmental issues in the Arab world have often been ignored and overshadowed by other socioeconomic and political concerns, but are now just as pressing.

Educating for Sustainability

2017-2018 > In line with our efforts to promote innovative and participatory approaches, this pilot project funded by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences aimed to support the development of participatory action research projects as a tool to increase environmental awareness and engage local youth in promoting environmental protection and sustainability.

Al Yaal

2011 - 2014 > One of the first programs we developed, Al Yaal focused on bringing together diverse stakeholders across sectors to protect and preserve Kuwait’s marine environment. The program included a variety of educational and sustained clean-up activities, and was implemented in partnership with the Kuwait Society for the Protection of Animals and Their Habitats (K’S PATH).

2011 - 2012 > As we explored how to promote sustainability through creative means that could also empower marginalized communities, we developed a partnership with The Body Shop Foundation and Al Jana in Lebanon to help establish a paper recycling and art cooperative for vulnerable women in the Al Na’meh area of Beirut, Lebanon.

REUSE

2008 - 2015 > Our first, and longest-lasting initiative, REUSE was our original attempt to address environmental sustainability through a multidisciplinary lens, with a strong emphasis on the arts, cross-sector collaboration and youth mobilization.

en.v Publication

2008 - 2010 > As part of our efforts to get a more nuanced and comprehensive understanding of sustainability challenges in the Arab world, en.v launched a quarterly educational publication which included locally developed and driven content providing insights on these issues across the region, from the perspective of those on the ground.
